What Your Zodiac Sign Says About Your Workout Style

It may already be January, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to start tackling your new year’s resolution! (Especially if they’re fitness-focused.) We’re dedicated to your progress, which is why we enlisted the help of clairvoyant astrologer Debra Anne Clement. The Shortcut to the Soul podcast host shared her advice on what workout route to take, according to your zodiac sign. See what she had to say below.

Aries (Mar. 21 – Apr. 19)

You’re not only the most energetic sign in the zodiac, but you’re arguably the most competitive one as well. Whether you’re racing against someone in a 5K or just trying to beat your personal best, you’re in it to win it. That’s why when it comes to exercise, you opt for intense workouts such as cardio circuit training, running and cycling that put your stamina to the test.

Taurus (Apr. 20 – May 20)

When it comes to exercise, you want simple routines that strengthen your body and tone your appearance without having to break much of a sweat. Ballet-inspired exercises such as Pilates and barre that sculpt the body through purposeful movements are a perfect match for your steady deliberate nature.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

If your workout doesn’t engage your mind as well as your body, you’ll blow it off the moment something more interesting comes up. Lively dance classes with complex choreography such as hip hop and ballroom will keep you coming back for more, and the social atmosphere is an attractive bonus for your friendly nature.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

You prefer to work out in the comfort and privacy of your home using online programs, apps or DVDs instead of in a gym or studio, and your natural tenacity ensures that you stick with it. You’re a sensitive soul who can be prone to worry. Tai Chi, breath work or other mind-body practices that reduce stress while they strengthen the body are ideal for you.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

You put your heart and soul into everything you do, and your workout is no exception. When it comes to exercise, you do prefer to do your sweating in a high-end health club that offers the hottest fitness classes and personal attention. Dance-inspired cardio workouts such as Zumba and Bombay Jam appeal to you because they get your blood pumping and bring out the performer in you.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22)

As the zodiac’s ruler of health and fitness, you know the importance of exercise better than any other sign, and you have the self-discipline to stick with a routine. You prefer workouts that are structured, efficient and get the job done, such as interval circuit training at a health club or using a Bowflex at home.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22)

Of all the signs, you’re the one least likely to work out on your own because you prefer to socialize while you exercise. You’re also not a fan of sweaty gyms or extreme workouts. Meeting a friend at a stylish studio for a yoga or Qi Gong class followed by a leisurely bite to eat is your ideal workout because there’s less perspiring and more socializing.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21)

Known for your intense approach, you want a full-body workout that also strengthens your mind. That’s why your first choice is usually the martial arts, followed by kickboxing, weight training and Buti Yoga. An extremely sensual sign, you also enjoy seductive dance workouts such as tango lessons, pole dancing or belly dancing.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

You don’t like to be bored or confined, which is why your workout includes a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities. You hit the gym for strength training but get your cardio from hiking, running or cycling. Your love of friendly competition enjoys playing any sport where you have a chance to best your opponent and then go out to have a drink together.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

Of all the signs, you’re the one most likely to hire a personal trainer to teach you how to perform each exercise correctly. Since you view exercise as a job to be done and want to do it as efficiently as possible, a straightforward Reformer Pilates routine that targets your entire body, enhances flexibility and helps reduces stress is the way to go.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18)

Your relationship with exercise isn’t always a consistent one, because you don’t like to be tied to a set schedule or work out alone. Your best bet is a health club that offers ongoing fitness classes at a wide array of days and times. Not only does it allow you to work out on your own schedule, but it also satisfies your need for variety and social interaction.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – Mar. 20)

Truth be told, going to a gym or a health club doesn’t rank high on your list. A sensitive soul, you prefer a less energetic environment and a workout that promotes emotional tranquility as well as physical vitality. Whether at home or a quiet studio, your best workouts include some form of yoga, Tai Chi or other discipline that combines breathing, stretches, postures and meditation.
