SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
At Vital Proteins®, we are committed to doing business in a way that respects people and the planet. While we are incredibly proud of the social and environmental actions we’ve taken to date, we know we can continuously push for better.  Check out our current achievements and future commitments, and learn why Vital Proteins is trusted for clean, responsibly sourced collagen.
We Offer Products People Can Trust
Vital Proteins® is committed to creating premium products that people can trust. Each formulation is consciously developed to be efficacious, easy to use, and enjoyable to consume. We do this by:
  1. Sourcing high-quality, purpose-driven ingredients.
  2. Pursuing social, environmental and dietary certifications.
  3. Maintaining extensive quality processes and procedures at our manufacturing facilities.
We are Committed to Responsibly Sourced Collagen Peptides
We’re committed to sourcing high-quality products in line with our responsible sourcing standards. Our efforts directly support Vital Proteins® Collagen Peptides source transparency and safety, driving positive change across our supply chain. That’s why we’re spearheading a collaboration with our direct suppliers of collagen to ensure their business practices are aligned with that goal.
What We’re Doing
  • Redirecting our sourcing to alternative regions to avoid the Amazon Area.
  • Respecting the land rights of Indigenous communities through independent, third-party verification.
  • Committing to a deforestation-free primary supply chain by 2025.
  • Requiring suppliers to provide regular reportings on their social and environmental business practices.
  • Develop enhanced traceability programs for the raw collagen materials.
  • Supporting reforestation initiatives in collaboration with local authorities and NGOs.
We remain focused on partnering with suppliers that uphold similar ethical and environmental standards, engaging them to continuously improve their sustainability practices across our primary supply chain. So, if you’re asking, “Where does Vital Proteins® source their collagen?”, we can provide clear answers.
Where is Vital Proteins® Collagen Peptides Manufactured?
Our Collagen Peptides are manufactured in a facility that is both NSF and SQF Certified, ensuring that we meet Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards. All our canisters, capsules bottles, and stick pack film are BPA- and BPS-free. This helps us minimize your exposure to chemicals that may be harmful.
Vital Proteins® Uses Collagen Peptides, an Upcycled By-Product
Cattle are not raised for collagen purposes. Instead, we repurpose animal byproducts, like skins and hides, into valuable supplemental products, helping to reduce waste in the meat industry. Our collagen peptides are sourced from this upcycling process.
Is Vital Proteins® Collagen Grass Fed?
Vital Proteins® bovine collagen comes from cattle that have been raised predominately on outdoor pastures with access to fresh grass, air, and water. Another term for the lifestyle enjoyed by these cows is, “grass-fed and pasture-raised.” There may be times when farmers may need to move cattle inside for the welfare of the animals, but the foundation of their care is based outdoors. Because their diet may diversify while indoors, we cannot guarantee our Collagen Peptides are sourced from cattle who have been 100% grass-fed.
Is Vital Proteins® a Clean Brand: Our Clean Approach
Yes. At Vital Proteins®, we define a clean brand by approaching product development with integrity. We’re thoughtful in how we approach product formulation, ingredient sourcing, certification and packaging. This includes:
  • Formulating products with simple, recognizable ingredients.
  • Sourcing high-quality ingredients to support efficacy.
  • Pursuing third-party certifications from reputable organizations like NSF, Rainforest Alliance and Whole30.
  • Using BPA- and BPS-free packaging for our canisters, capsule bottles, and single-use stick packs.
Minimizing Our Plastic Footprint
As an important initial step to reduce our plastic footprint, Vital Proteins®, aimed to be 100% scoopless by the end of 2024. For context, this small action will remove more than 25 million plastic scoops out of circulation this year alone amounting to 250K+ pounds annually. And this is just the start; our team is actively working to further reduce plastic usage in our packaging operations, the office environment, and more.
We are a People-First Organization
Our brand is only as powerful as our organizational culture is strong. We're committed to building a safe, diverse and inclusive community where being human is celebrated more than driving results. Our "Vital Values" guide how we approach our work and one another. We celebrate collaboration, progress over perfection, passion and the entrepreneurial spirit. Our Culture Committee continues to develop tools and programming, like cultural assessments, monthly wellness workshops, minority-led DEI programming and community outreach, to help us better connect to ourselves, one another, and a greater good. By investing in our people, we can be a better brand for our community.
