How durable is the new paperboard canister, really?ᵠ

Pretty darn! We tested our canister to withstand leaks, spills and other everyday life events. We went to great lengths to ensure our packaging felt as premium as the collagen inside.

Can my canister withstand humid conditions?

Yes! Even if you live in a hot or humid area, our paperboardᵠ canister’s pull tab lid is designed to open easily and lock in freshness. Because no one has time for soggy collagen.

What happens if I bring my paperboard canister outside in the rain?ᵠ

You’ll get wet. While we don’t recommend bringing your paperboardᵠ canister outside for a fieldtrip, it is designed to withstand moisture and spills. Might we suggest an umbrella?

What if I liked the plastic lid?

Sorry to hear that. As we transition all of our products over to paperboardᵠ canisters, you’ll still find some of our flavors in our original packaging for a bit longer. Hope that helps!

How does Vital Proteins’ paperboard packaging reduce its carbon footprint?

We’re proud to share that we worked with a trusted third-party expert to conduct a lifecycle assessment comparing our new canisters¹ to our previous plastic ones. The expert found that our paperboard canisters have over 40% less carbon emissions compared to our previous plastic ones². We’re committed to making choices that have less impact on the planet. Our packaging is part of our commitment to be a more responsible company.

ᵠTechnically, it’s made of 80% paperboard with over 90% plastic reduction across all canister offerings based on 2023 numbers versus the amount of plastic in the same number of canisters in 2025.
