A Peek Inside This Makeup Artist's Morning Skincare Routine

By: Stephanie Shiwram

Stephanie Shiwram is a makeup artist. Here, she gives us a peek inside her morning skincare routine.

As the seasons change, so does my skincare and makeup routine. With spring already here and summer not too far away, I’ve made a few changes to my daily routine. I’ve become more self-aware of how I’m treating my skin and am paying more attention to the ingredients in the products I regularly use.

I’ve been really into fresh, glowing skin – somewhat of an effortless, dewy, and natural look now that temps are rising. I also have combination skin and am prone to blemishes, so my skincare routine will be different than most since I’m using anti-aging products (I’m only in my 20s but it’s better to prevent than to treat!) and treating dark spots.

My Morning Skincare Routine

A common misconception is that makeup fixes imperfections, but the reality is that foundation, concealer, and the like serve as a temporary solution. What really matters is following a strict skincare regimen. Here are the products I use in my morning skincare routine. It’s my preferred way to start the day.

Drunk Elephant - Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser

This jelly cleanser is very light and a little goes a long way. This cleanser is great for removing any excess sebum, makeup, dullness, etc. The pH level helps to nourish and soothe the skin, helping it to stay balanced throughout the day.

Ole Henriksen Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner

This toner is filled with AHAs (glycolic acid and lactic acid), which not only reduce the appearance of dark spots but also fine lines and dullness.

Serums: Valjean Facial Serums Glow and Truly Organic Booster Serum in Downtown Defender

Serums are more concentrated and add an extra oomph to my skincare routine. My skin used to feel dry and tight. After introducing these serums, my skin has stayed hydrated throughout the day sans the excess oil or sebum. [Editor note: Our Glow Collagen Shot contains hyaluronic acid, a powerful ingredient that helps to promote skin hydration.]

Tatcha Pearl Tinted Eye Illuminating Treatment

This tinted eye treatment helps with the appearance of my dark circles and serves as prep for under-eye concealer.

Drunk Elephant - Protini Polypeptide Moisturizer and Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30

What I love about Drunk Elephant products is that they are meant to work together. These products help protect my skin from UVA/UVB rays while also improving my skin’s texture, tone, and elasticity.

Primer - MAC Strobe Cream in Pinklite

This is the perfect way to add ‘glow’ to my face and the last step in my skincare routine. Even if I don’t wear makeup, I love the appearance of my skin after I apply this cream. Containing vitamins and green tea, it brightens and clarifies the skin without making me out to look like a disco ball.
