Joe Valavi: I am the Plant Manager at our Franklin Park Facility and I have the unique opportunity to work for 200 men and women who are passionate about making, packing and shipping Vital Proteins products.
The exciting part of my role is that I have a unique opportunity to make a difference in people's careers and help them achieve their goals. No single day or week is similar and every challenge brings the opportunity to learn and experience new things. Work, win in teams and a “can do” attitude are true characteristics of our colleagues at Franklin Park and that's what keeps me going.
JV: My alarm goes off at 5 a.m. and I have a long commute to work but it is one of the best parts of my day as I make use of this time to connect with my parents who live overseas. Of course, I carry a travel mug filled with coffee & unflavored Collagen Peptides. My first meeting starts as early as 7 a.m. and is followed by a plant walkabout to see how we are set up for the day.
JV: I am a result-oriented person with a keen interest in seeking answers to help our operation run as smoothly as possible. My inspirations stem from problems or challenges that I have experienced before and how I have overcome those with the support of my team. For instance, when a major piece of machinery has malfunctioned, this is my opportunity for critical thinking and to apply problem-solving techniques with my team so that the problem doesn’t re-occur. It becomes an excellent "Learn. Do. Teach" experience for all.
JV: Most days, meetings are conducted during this time. It’s also a great time to grab a salad or sandwich and chat with other team members. Sometimes I use this time to read through emails, listen to voice messages and return phone calls or check in at home.
JV: Our cafeteria is stocked with wholesome protein snacks which include our Collagen Peptides stick packs to add to my coffee for a quick energizer. However, we also have an ample supply of individually wrapped ice cream treats to name a few. So needless to say… some days I am leaning more towards some ice cream.
JV: When I am away from work, the practice of wellness is of the utmost importance. Practicing wellness not only protects me but also extends to my family as well. My wife and I are proud parents of a nine-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son, so once I leave Vital Proteins, my work is not done. When I reach home, I am a busy person. My daughter is a very precocious and creative 8-year-old. She is always eager to share with me her latest projects and adventures as she loves to role-play different career choices. (Yes, she is already deciding what she wants to be when she grows up!!) My son usually will chase me down for a walk in the neighborhood or a ride in his wagon. Practicing #wellnessfromhome remains a priority no matter where I am.
