Welcome to The Vital Life, where we spotlight Vital Proteins employees. This week, Beauty Account Executive, Tessa Ready, gives us a peek inside her day.
Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us, Tessa! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?
Tessa Ready: Happy to be sharing! I’m the Beauty Account Executive here at Vital, and I’m responsible for our Salon & Spas and alternative beauty retailers. I develop new and existing partnerships, assisting beauty retailers to build out their wellness category with a focus on “beauty from within.” I love this role because I get to educate and build relationships within a category that is constantly innovating and evolving.
L: Walk us through your morning routine – what does it typically look like for you?
TR: I’ll admit, I’m a fan of the snooze button. On a good day, I’ll throw on a record or Spotify playlist while I let some herbal tea steep and wake up slowly while I do my makeup. Part of my beauty routine is adding Vital Proteins Original Collagen Peptides to my tea to enjoy while I get ready. It has definitely made makeup application that much more fun. Once I’m ready, I’ll walk to the CTA for my ride to work.
L: We’ll have to start doing the same! Once you make it to the office, how do you get inspired for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?
TR: When I get to the office, I pour a cup of our Vital Coffee Roasters for a caffeine fix. My inspiration comes from anything and everything – from articles I read to conversations with co-workers that spark new ideas. I feel lucky to live in Chicago, a city that is full of incredible architecture, delicious food, art exhibits, music and more. I’m also a big fan of traveling. Nothing makes me feel more alive and inspired than visiting new places and meeting new people!
L: It’s lunchtime! What’s your plan?
TR: I love to experiment in the kitchen and was always taught to, “cook once, eat twice.” Dinner leftovers for lunch is my go-to and allows me to feel satiated throughout the day. Although I’m not vegetarian, most of my meals are plant-based. I really enjoy gathering with friends in our office kitchen, where I really take the time to appreciate my food.
L: Switching gears, how do you tackle a mid-afternoon slump. What are your go-to things to get you through and re-energize your afternoon?
TR: Right around 2:30-3:00 p.m. I’m ready for an afternoon matcha latte made with coconut milk, honey and cinnamon. I try to stick to coffee in the A.M. but if I’m in a slump, I’ll order a cappuccino with oat milk from our amazing barista, Marco! Oh, and I have an unhealthy addiction to dried mango, my go-to afternoon snack.
L: You made it to the end of the day – congrats! What’s next on your agenda?
TR: After the workday is over you can find me at a local Metalsmithing studio making jewelry (or, at least, trying to!). I love to work with my hands and find the creative outlet meditative and inspiring. Last summer, I took up Salsa and I fell in love with the dance – so much so that I added Bachata to the mix this year. It’s challenging but an absolute blast. When I get home, I throw on a podcast or call up friends/family to catch up while I make some dinner. I have a very active mind and always struggle to fall asleep, so our Blueberry Moon Milk Collagen Latte™ supplement has been a miracle in a mug. I like to enjoy a cup while I catch up on reading and scroll through Instagram and Pinterest. I’m a night owl so I do my best to have the lights out by 10:30 p.m. but it usually ends up being more like 11:00-11:30 p.m. (working on that for 2020!).
