Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us, Ryan! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?
Ryan Kappmeyer: I work on the Sales Operations team and do all of our new customer onboarding. I work with all of our customers that apply through our wholesale site and are brought on by our field sales team members to ensure they fit within our wholesale program. From there, I get them set up in all of our systems, collect the requested paperwork and documents, and properly categorize them so they can begin carrying our product line as soon as possible.
My favorite part of this role is working with our sales team to set up our larger, national chain accounts. It's nice to see these relationships come to fruition, and be a large part of the continued growth of the company.
L: Walk us through your morning routine – how has it changed (or not) since staying home?
RK: Usually I'll wake up and take out my dog, Benji, right away. After that I'll make some coffee and write for about 45 minutes, usually a comedy sketch or TV pilot. Once I'm done with that, I'll go for a run outside, then take a shower and read on my back deck until it's time to work.
L: Where have you been getting inspiration for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?
RK: A lot of this comes from co-workers. Connecting with everyone throughout the day has been exciting and reminds me of what I love so much about working at Vital Proteins. Seeing their enthusiasm and continued support is definitely helpful. Turning on some great music never hurts either.
L: Lunchtime! What’s your plan?
RK: When lunch rolls around, I'll usually take my dog out again. Afterwards, I'll carve out a little time to make some food, then work through lunch while I sit at my kitchen counter with my laptop. Recently, I've been really enjoying chickpea pasta.
L: You’re hitting your mid-afternoon slump. How do you re-energize your afternoon?
RK: If I hit a slump in the afternoon, I'll usually step away from my desk for a little bit to meditate, then make another cup of coffee. Once I'm settled back, in I'll find some music I really love and listen to that while I continue to plug away.
How have you been practicing #wellnessfromhome these days?
RK: I've been practicing #wellnessfromhome by trying to stay active both mentally and physically, and visiting my nephew, Crosby, from a very safe distance. He was born on June 20 and I cannot articulate how excited I am to be an uncle. Outside of that, I have therapy every Tuesday, which is always profoundly helpful, at any juncture in life. I'll read and write in the morning before exercising. I also meditate daily, and go for long walks after work. I've also made a concerted effort to get on the phone and call a lot of friends regularly, it's been nice to take advantage of this time to reconnect with a lot of folks I don't talk to as often as I'd like. I also don't start watching TV until at least 7 p.m. at night, which has helped avoid that slippery slope.
