Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us, Paige! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?
Paige Pontius: I am a Retail Marketing Manager at Vital Proteins. Our team works as a liaison between our sales and marketing departments to help cohesively bring our marketing strategies to our retail partners both in-store and online.
I truly enjoy this role because it’s the perfect marriage between my love for creative work and project management. No two weeks are the same, so it really forces us to constantly look for ways to evolve our work as Vital Proteins continues to grow. The Retail Marketing team is also one of the few teams that have the opportunity to collaborate with just about every sub-department across both sales and marketing. I feel honored to be able to work with so many talented people every day!
L: Walk us through your morning routine — how does this typically look for you?
PP: Admittedly, most of the time I’ll snooze my alarm several times before actually getting out of bed. This month I’ve given myself the goal to do a 10 minute guided meditation instead of pressing snooze or scrolling through Instagram. I’ll then get out of bed and make my daily smoothie for breakfast with our Vanilla Collagen Peptides. I also love taking our Vital Proteins Cleanse Shots with apple cider vinegar right away in the morning! Then, I’ll turn on a podcast or audiobook while I get myself ready. I love any sort of personal development genre or biography/memoir in the morning. It really helps me get in the right mindset for the day ahead and not immediately jump to my to-do list. Once I’m ready, I’ll head out the door and walk to work - rain, shine, or snow!
L: Awesome! Once you get to the office, how do you get inspired for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?
PP: For me, I always feel most inspired after traveling. I’ve found upon returning home from a long-awaited trip, I not only feel more rested and rejuvenated but also noticeably more creative. I feel that regularly getting out of your normal day-to-day routine is so incredibly important. When I’m exposed to new sights, smells, people, and perspectives I wouldn’t normally be exposed to is exactly when the new ideas spark - like clockwork! I always make a point to plan a few trips throughout the year (big or small) for this exact reason.
L: It’s lunchtime! What’s your plan?
PP: I prefer to meal prep and bring my own lunch to work as opposed to ordering take out. If I have the time, I’m making my favorite Zucchini ‘meat’balls and have some sort of fruit or salad on the side. If I’m in a bind didn’t quite make it to meal prepping on Sunday, I’ll order a rice bowl from Roti or a Salad from Sweetgreen. Either way, I’m always hoping for a catered lunch on Wednesday from Baba Pita.
L: Yum! Switching gears, how do you tackle a mid-afternoon slump. What are your go-to things to get you through and re-energize your afternoon?
PP: I do 1 of 2 things: If I can’t break away from back-to-back meetings or am on a tight deadline, I’ll order a Matcha Latte (made with our Vital Proteins Matcha Collagen Latte) from our in-house cafe or grab a Vital Proteins Zen Collagen Shot. If I do have a bit of flexibility, I’ll go for a short walk or meet a few friends in the kitchen for a quick chat sesh/mental break. Sometimes a good laugh is all you need to keep you going!
L: You made it to the end of the day — congrats! What’s next on your agenda?
PP: I’ll pack up and head to either yoga or HIIT class depending on my mood. Yoga is my tried and true way to unwind after a long day, but recently I’ve enjoyed incorporating more HIIT or jogging into the mix as well. I’ll head home after my class and make dinner while catching up on whatever TV show I’m binging at the time (die-hard Handmaid’s Tale fan right here). Between 9-10 pm I’ll make the transition to my bed and spend a little time either reading a book or scroll through Pinterest looking for home decor ideas, new recipes, or design inspo - I’m obsessed with Typography! Lights out no later than 11 pm. I take my sleep schedule very seriously!
