Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?
Matt Aporta: I’m the Vice President of Sales for the Specialty Channel and the West. I’ve been with Vital Proteins for almost 3 years now. I oversee day-to-day sales covered by my team in the Mid-West, Rocky Mountain, PNW, California and all of Canada. This also includes Military Depots, Fitness and Professional Sports. I love my job because I get to work with some of the most talented people in the industry. These 3 years have flown by, as it’s like being strapped to a rocket ship on a daily basis.
L: Walk us through your morning routine – how has it changed (or not) since staying home?
MA: I wake up daily at 6:00 a.m. to get a start on the day. I take 4 Vital Proteins Beef Liver capsules and 4 Cartilage Collagen capsules. I let my wife Mary Beth sleep in as I take care of our 2½-year-old boy who likes to wake up soon after me. (She has him for most of the remainder of the day. She’s a rock star.) Once Mary Beth comes down, she starts the espresso machine and pulls a double shot americano for me. We add 2 scoops of our OG Collagen Peptides. I drink it black and love it with my collagen. I then head back upstairs by 8:00 a.m. to start the workday. The day to day has changed a lot, because I’m actually home. Before staying at home, I was traveling over 60% of the time. This is a welcomed break from the “norm.”
L: Where have you been getting inspiration for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?
MA: I have over 20 years of saved recipes clipped from newspapers, printed and 20+ cookbooks I now have the time to dive into. I cook 1-2 meals per day 7 days a week now that I’m home. I follow a few friends and chefs that also inspire my time back in the kitchen. I also find inspiration from the list of to-do’s and projects I always pushed off because of “no time.” Ha, now I (we) have all the time!
L: Lunchtime! What’s your plan?
MA: Some kind of sandwich/panini. We love tuna melts. Also, leftovers from the last night’s dinner.
L: You’re hitting your mid-afternoon slump. How do you re-energize your afternoon?
MA: I take my son outside to throw rocks. It's one of his favorite things to do. We also go for walks in our neighborhood to search for lizards.
L: How have you been practicing #wellnessfromhome these days?
MA: Peloton. Big time. I make sure to get on the bike almost every day. I’ve been holding myself accountable every day to do something physical. I also take my wife’s @marybethlarue yoga classes.
