Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?
Mariana Barros: Thanks for having me! I'm an Associate Content Editor here at Vital Proteins! I get to work with the most wonderful team on a variety of different video projects. I truly enjoy my job so much because I get to constantly flex my creative muscles and bring new ideas to life! Although I'm an editor, I love that I get to be involved in the entire production process and that I have the responsibility of putting all the pieces together into a compelling, engaging, and on-brand video. Since my team works on content for several different departments here at Vital, I get to edit content for all things social media, digital ads, TV, international markets, etc.! This wide variety helps push my creative thinking, keeps me on my toes, and makes every day a fun and rewarding new challenge!
L: Walk us through your morning routine – how has it changed (or not) since staying home?
MB: It's definitely changed a bit. Although I feel most creative at night, I'd say I'm actually a morning person and feel most productive then! Depending on the day, I prefer to work out in the morning, whether that's at the gym in my apartment building or at an early morning Pilates class. I feel best when I move my body in the morning! Once I'm done with my workout, I love to start every day with a cup of coffee with our Original Collagen Peptides. I don't usually eat a big breakfast, if anything, just a small snack with my coffee. However, lately I have been loving our bite-sized Beauty Gummies, Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies and Immune Support** Gummies in the mornings! They're delicious, make a huge difference, and I genuinely look forward to having them every morning. After that, if time allows, I like to get a head start on my work day and take a look at my to-do list, write down any notes that I might have, and map out what I will be working on that day. Doing this helps me feel like I can tackle the day with a plan and be as focused and productive as possible.
L: Where have you been getting inspiration for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?
MB: I get inspiration from so many different places. I find a lot of video editing inspiration on social media, ads, Pinterest, and even creators on YouTube. I am constantly paying attention to the ways people edit videos and thinking about how I can translate them into new approaches for my creative work. I would say I get the most inspiration, however, from my team. I'm really lucky to be surrounded by the most incredible creative thinkers. Brainstorming ideas with them and sharing content that we love with each other really keeps me excited and motivated to grow, learn, and try new things. Shoutout to my team, they're the best!
L: Lunchtime! What's your plan?
MB: For lunch I usually go with either leftovers from a dinner I previously made, or I'll throw together a salad with whatever is in my fridge. I also love to have breakfast for lunch because I don't eat much of a breakfast in the morning, so you could definitely find me cooking some eggs in the afternoon. This really changes depending on what I'm in the mood for, but typically it's either a nice big salad, roasted veggies, eggs and couscous, or leftovers!
L: You're hitting your mid-afternoon slump. How do you re-energize your afternoon?
MB: I can never have too much coffee, so I'd totally grab another cup of coffee if I'm really feeling the slump that day! I also LOVE mixing our Vital Proteins Collagen Beauty Glow® in Strawberry Lemon with water and throwing some ice in there for a tasty, refreshing drink. I'll also sometimes have my Collagen Gummies in the afternoon because it honestly tastes like candy except it's collagen and it's amazing for you! I'm obsessed with them.
L: How have you been practicing #wellnessfromhome these days?
MB: I've been really trying to make #wellnessfromhome a priority for me lately, especially with everything that's happened this past year and is still happening, I really believe taking care of our mental and physical health is so important. I think this looks different for everyone, but I find a lot of peace when I play my guitar. It's always been a very therapeutic thing for me and I tend to lean into that when I feel like I need a mental break. I also check in on my friends, because we're all going through it and especially now that I live far away from a lot of them (I moved to Chicago from Arizona), it's important to me that they know I'm still always here for them. I try to find time to move my body every day, even if it's just taking a walk outside, I find it does wonders for me. I think it's crucial to find an activity that brings you peace, and acts as a form of therapy because being home all day every day can really take a toll on your mental AND physical health if you're not taking care of yourself.
Favorite Podcast? Sean Carrol's Mindscape. I love conversational podcasts and feeling like a fly on the wall. He talks with the most interesting thinkers, and I always learn something new!
Favorite Workout? Dancing has always been my favorite, but I also love a good Pilates Reformer class.
Favorite Binge-Worthy Show? I'm currently binge-watching Naruto, but the last thing I binge-watched was Love Island – that show is addicting!
Favorite Vital Proteins Product? I'm currently OBSESSED with our Wellness Gummies. I have all of them, but my favorites are probably the Beauty Gummies and Collagen Gummies. I've also been loving our Vital Performance™ Salty Chocolate Peanut Protein Bar. It tastes like a delicious candy bar but is packed with protein and makes me feel great! It's quickly become my ride-or-die protein bar.
