Welcome to The Vital Life, where we spotlight Vital Proteins employees. This week, senior social media and content manager Lauren Dreyer gives us a peek inside her day.
My day usually starts around 6:30 A.M. with a dog’s nose in my face. His name is Theo and he’s my black lab mix. Between my alarm going off and Theo stepping all over me to get me up, I finally cave in and get out of bed.
I greet my fiancé Rob and let Theo outside. We have a fenced in backyard so I let him run around for awhile while I tend to my garden. I’m really excited about it this year because we made our flower garden bigger and have a tomato and cucumber plant. My parents had a huge flower and vegetable garden when I was growing up, so I’m excited to have my own now.
I finish getting ready and take a Cleanse Collagen Shot. It’s my favorite of the Collagen Shots and I love that tangy apple cider flavor. I then head out the door by 7:45 A.M. sharp so I can catch the bus down to the train. I take public transportation to work every day and I really like it because it allows me to read most days (if I can find a seat). Right now, I’m readingMy Own Words by Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

As the Senior Manager of Social and Digital Content, I’m in charge of our social media, email marketing and blog teams. I love that with social media and digital content you can foster an amazing online community. And I am in love with the Vital community. Go Collagen Crew! It’s so heart-warming getting to see and hear how our fans love and use our products every day and how they have made a difference in their lives.
I usually start my work day by going through emails and chatting with the team on what content is being pushed out that day. I’ll then check what meetings I have that day and prepare for any. I also check all of our stats for email, social media and the blog and see where we might need to make adjustments.
For lunch, it’s usually leftovers from dinner the night before, or if I’m in a pinch I’ll order the Harvest Bowl from Sweet Green -- it’s my absolute favorite!
For the remainder of the day, I’ll get to work on any major projects such as a product launch or photo shoot. I’m trying to cut back on my caffeine intake so instead of my normal afternoon coffee I’ve been making our Chicken Bone Broth Collagen in a cup of hot water with a pinch of ginger, turmeric and black pepper. It’s the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. I’ll finish working on major projects or have meetings with other departments. One of the great things about social media is that you get to work with all sorts of different departments and people.

After work, I usually head to a Shred415 class with my sister. I love how supportive the instructors are and how great I feel afterwards. Plus, I enjoy uncapping our new Lemon Ginger Collagen Water. It’s is my go-to after a long, hard workout. If I’m not enjoying a Shred class, I will usually meet Rob for dinner somewhere in Logan Square, which is where we live. We love trying new restaurants in the city. After that we snuggle up on the couch with Theo and watchThe Office for the millionth time. Seriously, the millionth time. My team knows how obsessed I am with The Office, for my third anniversary at Vital they made me this amazing sign:
