L: Thanks for sharing your day with us! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?
ER: I am the Event Operations Coordinator at Vital Proteins. As a member of the Strategic Events Team, I help bring our brand activations to life across the United States and beyond. I enjoy being able to work with most departments at the company in some capacity, but what I like the most is being able to travel and visit places I wouldn’t have the opportunity to otherwise.
L: Walk us through your morning routine – what does it typically look like for you?
ER: This may be a stretch on the concept of “morning routine” but typically every morning my alarm goes off at 7:00 a.m. To “engage my mind” I scroll through the New York Times webpage on my phone, opening interesting articles into new tabs to read throughout the day (most of which go unread). Sometimes I get a ride to work, otherwise I take the bus. Once I get in the office, I wash my hands, then pour myself a cup of Vital Roasters Coffee with a glass of water on the side and get to work.
L: You made it to the office! Where do you get inspiration for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?
ER: My journey to becoming a morning person is still very much in progress, so my inspiration typically comes in the form of caffeine. Combine that with a couple of deadlines and I can really get in the zone. To keep the flow going I’ll put on some chill lyric-less music like Tycho, Edamame, or Emancipator.
L: Lunchtime! What’s your plan?
ER: I infrequently bring my lunch, which I am not incredibly proud of, but it is nice to venture outside the office each day for some fresh Chicago air. If you're looking for a recommendation on where to get a chicken sandwich, pizza, tacos or ramen around Fulton Market, I’m your guy.
L: You’re hitting a mid-afternoon slump. What do you do to get through and re-energize your afternoon?
ER: I switch over to tasteful metal to juice up the afternoon. My favorite bands for combating the slump are Russian Circles (Chicago based!), Mastodon, Grotto, and If these Trees Could Talk.
L: Day's over! What’s next on your agenda/how do you unwind after a long day?
ER: Sometimes I go to the gym after work. I like to mess around with music production and DJ software in my spare time. Right now, I am trying to get better at using Resolume, a program for projection mapping and mixing video content. To unwind, I like reading before going to sleep (big fan of science fiction).
