How Netsuite Financial Analyst, Anthony Hasbun, Adds Collagen To His Routine

Welcome to The Vital Life, where we spotlight Vital Proteins® employees. This week, Netsuite Analyst, Anthony Hasbun, gives us a look inside his remote workday.

Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role? 

Anthony Hasbun: I work under the accounting and finance department. However, my role is heavily technology-based and involves a lot of project management. As a NetSuite Financial Analyst, I work with the accounting and finance teams to discover ways to make their day-to-day processes more efficient via ERP automation. What I enjoy about it is being able to keep my roots as an accounting and finance professional while also plugging into a larger ERP technology team here at Vital. The technology side of my role is exciting as the system is always changing and it's my job to stay on top of updates or new system enhancements that could benefit the team. I also like being able to work with the SQL data language and having direct insight into the JavaScript code that's written in our system. It's very exciting seeing what technology can do to help a company grow.

L: Walk us through your morning routine – how has it changed (or not) since staying home?

AH: Right before the pandemic hit, I relocated to Los Angeles, so my morning routine has changed quite a bit. It went from working out at the Chicago Athletic Club next to our Fulton Market office from 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. to getting up by 6:00 a.m. and either going for a run or catching up on news by turning on NPR radio. At 7 a.m., I'll make a coffee using our Vital Coffee Roasters beans and drop in a stick pack of our Collagen Peptides, then get online to make sure I'm supporting the team during Central Time hours. At 10 a.m. (lunchtime in Chicago), I have another chance to sneak a workout or run in if I didn't do so before starting the workday. After, I'll make a smoothie with our Vanilla & Coconut Water Collagen Whey.

L: Where have you been getting inspiration for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?

AH: Most of my inspiration comes from the discussions I have with the accounting and finance teams. Being able to collaborate and brainstorm together to tackle problems or inefficiencies drives a good momentum for a project. Another way I find inspiration is through an ERP Professionals Community I joined about a year ago. It's been a great resource for sharing ideas on system configurations and for general troubleshooting when I feel stuck. The community also has its own Slack account, so it makes it easy to stay engaged and read about other real-world business cases.

L: Lunchtime! What’s your plan?

AH: My lunches are pretty short. I've been making an effort to step away from my desk to prepare something. Lately, I've been into making egg white scrambles with spinach, cherry tomatoes, avocado and chickpeas.

L: You’re hitting your mid-afternoon slump. How do you re-energize your afternoon?

AH: To fight the afternoon slumps, I won't make another cup of coffee. Instead, I'll go for something with less caffeine. I've been using our Matcha Collagen daily to do this. I've found that the amount of caffeine in one serving and L-theanine has suited me best.

L: How have you been practicing #wellnessfromhome these days?

AH: A lot of my #wellnessfromhome practice revolves around outdoor socially-distanced physical activity. I go for runs, find an outdoor gym class to attend or lookup a trail to hike. When I'm feeling creative I'll play music - I DJ vinyl and play guitar.
