Welcome to The Vital Life where we spotlight Vital Proteins® employees. This week, Director of International Social Media & Influencer Marketing, Amanda Lehner, gives us a look inside her remote workday.

Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us, Amanda! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?

Amanda Lehner: I oversee all things social and influencer related for Vital Proteins and Vital Performance™, with an incredible team to help make all of the magic happen. This includes coming up with integrated social and influencer strategies for new product launches, brand campaigns and even an entirely new product line – Vital Performance™!

We have the best content team that I work alongside to ideate and produce all of the amazing content on our social channels. We have a huge influencer program that I oversee as well. We currently have 40+ long-term paid influencer partnerships, who we work with regularly to create unique content for their social platforms and Vital’s, as well as thousands of influencers who we work with organically and through our new micro-influencer site, where people can get free Vital Proteins products in exchange for Instagram posts. We’re gearing up for international expansion, so building and executing our social and influencer strategy in these new countries is also a new challenge that I get to take on.

L: Walk us through your morning routine – how has it changed (or not) since staying home?

AL: I live in Los Angeles and worked remotely before Vital implemented its work from home policy, so my morning routine hasn’t drastically changed luckily. I definitely sleep a little later than I used to because I used to be a 6 a.m. gym-goer, and the gym is obviously not open. I brush my teeth first thing, drink a glass of water and a Vital Proteins Cleanse Collagen Shot, then I try to take a quick walk around the block for some mental clarity before checking Slack, emails and getting into the Zoom meetings for the day. 

L: Where have you been getting inspiration for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?

AL: I have to always be on top of social media trends and up-and-coming influencers, so I will get on Instagram or TikTok first. I also love sites like Adweek, AdAge and BuzzFeed because they report on cool brand news and campaigns. I’ve found that my best and most creative ideas come when I am not in front of my computer, so if I’m stuck on an idea I’ll go for a hike or run, which usually ends with a message to one of my team members saying, “I have an idea…!”

L: Lunchtime! What’s your plan?

AL: Breakfast! I’m not usually hungry in the mornings, but breakfast food is my favorite. I’ll usually go for a smoothie, avocado toast with scrambled eggs or an acai bowl.

L: You’re hitting your mid-afternoon slump. How do you re-energize your afternoon?

AL: If I have time, I will move by body. A quick walk down the block for a juice, at-home workout or stretch break usually does the trick. Living in Los Angeles, I always want to get outside when I can because the weather is so nice – socially distanced and with a face mask, of course.

L: How have you been practicing #wellnessfromhome these days?

AL: Daily exercise helps keep me mentally sane(ish), and I try to completely unplug from work at the end of the day so I can rest and wake up recharged for whatever tomorrow brings. I’m also a very social person, so not being able to work or meet up with people has been tough, but I make sure to have actual human interaction every day, whether that’s meeting up for coffee, dinner, a workout or hike. I’m super close with my family, too – I have three brothers and two nephews, so we are constantly texting and FaceTiming to keep in touch, which always brightens my day.

Binge-Worthy Show? I’m not a huge TV person, but Million Dollar Listing LA or New York is a fave… especially when Vital Proteins is throwing a party at one of the houses.
