Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?
Ali Mahoney: Thanks so much for having me - I’m happy to take you along! As a Digital Marketing Coordinator here at Vital Proteins, I touch all things related to vitalproteins.com, work closely with our entire eCommerce team to make sure we’re all rowing in the same direction, and oversee our affiliate program. In this role, I also have the amazing opportunity to collaborate with many other teams in the organization. From new product launches and promotions to seasonal campaigns and offers, I coordinate with our design, innovation and supply chain teams to help bring everything to life on site.
What I enjoy most about this role is connecting with all of the amazing teams. Each day is different for me and it always keeps me on my toes. I wouldn’t have it any other way!
L: Walk us through your morning routine – how has it changed (or not) since staying home?
AM: The one thing I’ve kept consistent while working from home is my morning routine! I’m an early riser, so my alarm typically goes off between 5:30-6:30 a.m. There is something about mornings that I love. Once out of bed, I immediately drink a huge glass of water before pouring a few sips of coffee and quickly check my inbox. Next, it’s workout time! During non-quarantine life, I’d pop right downstairs to my apartment gym, but these past few months I’ve really enjoyed strength training in my own space or heading outdoors for a long run.
Around 8:30-9:00 a.m., I’m logging into work and reviewing my top 3 “must-do” priority items for the day with my favorite cup of coffee (a touch of unsweetened almond milk and a scoop of Collagen Peptides). When I’m in the office, I typically grab a quick breakfast and go, but I’ve been loving the ability to enjoy a mid-morning breakfast at home!
L: Where have you been getting inspiration for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?
AM: The culture and energy of Vital paired with my passion for nutrition and wellness is ultimately what drives me each and every day. From working on how to best educate our consumers on new products to working swiftly with teammates to meet an upcoming deadline, I’m constantly faced with new ways of looking at projects. Whether it’s chatting in the kitchen over green juice samples from our amazing barista or hitting a 6 p.m. workout class as a team, the Vital team truly values living a full and vibrant life.
Some days, I’d also like to think my passion for golf translates into my projects or tasks I’m working on throughout the day. In golf, the previous shot is in the past - you must always be focusing on the next shot. If I’m faced with a new project or task during the day, our team comes together to quickly determine the next steps and actions to focus on the future. It’s pretty amazing to see everything we’re able to accomplish as a team. Positive spirits, attitudes and work ethic really propel us forward and provide that contagious energy!
L: Lunchtime! What’s your plan?
AM: During quarantine, I’ve been loving a mid-morning breakfast (my favorite meal of the day) and an afternoon snack plate. Breakfast typically consists of yogurt, oatmeal OR my favorite smoothie bowl with Collagen Whey. Lunchtime rolls around and I’m ready for a plate of my homemade healthy chicken salad, fresh chopped vegetables (carrots are my favorite), crackers and hummus.
While I bring my lunch to the office 95% of the time, I do have to admit I miss my lunch spot “go to’s”: Beatrix Market or Sweetgreen. We’ll soon be reunited! Until then, I’ll attempt to make salads just as tasty. (Day 50… and counting).
L: You’re hitting your mid-afternoon slump. How do you re-energize your afternoon?
AM: If my schedule allows, I love taking a short walk around the block to re-energize and refocus in the afternoon. Getting in these few steps and a breath of fresh air really helps set the tone for the remainder of the day. Once I’m back, I’ll add some fresh fruit like lemon or orange to my water and grab a Peanut Butter Chocolate Collagen Bar™. These new Collagen Bars™ are my favorite way to satisfy the afternoon sweet tooth cravings - and keep me focused on the remainder of my work and meetings for the day.
L: How have you been practicing #wellnessfromhome these days?
AM: Getting outside (while practicing social distancing) via runs or walks has been my main way of practicing #wellnessfromhome. I’m fortunate enough to be quarantining with family in the Chicago suburbs, so being around nature has been very peaceful! Since the half marathon that I signed up for this summer has been canceled, I’ve taken it upon myself to train and run the race myself (I call it my “quaran-13.1 fun run”)! This commitment has definitely had its challenging moments, but also so rewarding!
Aside from just getting outdoors, I make sure to frequently check in on friends and family every day. Whether it’s a simple text, phone call, or FaceTime, it’s important to maintain these connections, especially as we all adjust to this new environment! It’s been fun to make future plans for when we can all travel and be together again - the mountains are calling my name!

Favorite Workout? Strength training or a long outdoor run - but you can always count me in for a weekly Barry’s, [solidcore], or yoga class to change it up!
Binge-Worthy Show? While I don’t watch TV too often, I’m obsessed with Shark Tank! It’s so inspiring watching young entrepreneurs present innovative products. Friends or The Office are two shows that always find their way to my screen too - can’t forget the classics!
Favorite Vital Proteins Product? Dark Chocolate & Coconut Water Collagen Whey because I can add it into anything for an extra boost of protein and delicious flavor - oatmeal, smoothies, energy bites - you name it!
